Jerrod Wilson Snares $10k Triumph in Second Annual 600 Nationals
Sunday, 16 September 2007

Lonnie Wheatley, LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (September 15, 2007) – Jerrod Wilson shook off the bad luck that has plagued him over much of the 2007 season by scoring a $10,000 triumph in Saturday night's Second Annual 600 Nationals presented by Hoosier Tires at I-30 Speedway.

But after a dominant performance en route to winning Friday night's preliminary event over 125 competitors, Wilson had to work for the big bucks on Saturday night.

Running third during the early stages of the race, Wilson emerged from a torrid, three-way mid-race battle for the point with early pacesetter Stan Yockey and defending race champion Travis Senter, Jr., to take command for keeps on the 15th round.

While Wilson pocketed the $10,000 prize in the 600cc Multis, it was Trent Taylor earning a $1,500 victory to topping the 20-lap Horizon Mini Sprints Restricted "A" Class feature event.

Wilson's luck appeared to be inauspicious at best when he drew the six pill for the Sawyer Dash for Cash. But Wilson scratched his way up to second in the six-lapper to earn a front row outside starting berth for the feature event alongside Dash winner Yockey of Fresno, CA.

When the green flag flew on the feature, Yockey and Wilson battled for the lead with Yockey holding a slight edge as the opening round was completed only to have action interrupted moments later by a caution flag.

Back under way, fourth-starter Senter surged past Wilson for second and set his sights on Yockey. Yockey, Senter and Wilson slipped away from the field as the laps clicked off, with the lead trio reaching lapped traffic by the tenth round.

By the twelfth circuit, the trio began dicing for the point, swapping the lead several times along the way. Senter officially led the way across the stripe on the 14th round, but when the leaders battled in three-wide formation off of turn two on the 15th lap, it was Wilson emerged from the scramble with the lead off of turn four.

Still battling through heavy lapped traffic, Wilson found open track when the caution flew after 18 laps for Jonathan Henrick's turn four spin and then one final caution two laps later.

Wilson gradually slipped away from Senter over the final rounds and despite reaching the tail of the field on the final circuit, took the checkered flag with nearly a half straightaway advantage over Senter.

After setting the pace the opening 14 rounds, Yockey began to fade soon after the lap 18 caution and pulled pitside with six laps remaining.

Battling past Scott Sawyer in the final rounds, Tyson Hall of Longview, TX, took the show position behind Wilson and Senter. Oklahoma's Sawyer settled for fourth, with Illinois' Derek King rounding out the top five.

Texas' Travis Elliott advanced a half dozen positions to finish sixth, with Pennsylvania's Jake Murphy taking the checkered flag in seventh for the second time in as many nights. Pennsylvania's Michael Dicely was eighth, with Illinois' Daniel Robinson advancing from Last Chance race action to snare ninth in the feature. Tulsa's Riley Adair picked up a $500 bonus from Clean Racing by earning Hard Charger honors with a drive from 18th to complete the top ten.

Sprint Car legend Sammy Swindell crossed the stripe eleventh after starting 14th in the 26-car feature event.

Wilson Rocks to 600 Nationals Prelim Victory

Lonnie Wheatley, LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (September 14, 2007) – Skiatook, Oklahoma's Jerrod Wilson was the class of the field as the Second Annual 600 Nationals presented by Hoosier Tires kicked off at I-30 Speedway on Friday night.

Wilson wired the field in the non-stop 25-lap preliminary feature, besting a total of 125 entries from 19 different states as well as Australia to lock himself into Saturday night's $10,000-to-win 600 Nationals finale.

Also locked into Saturday's finale were the balance of the top six finishers, which included Oklahoma's Scott Sawyer, defending race winner Travis Senter, Jr., of Osceola, AR, California's Stan Yockey, Illini shoe Derek King and Indiana's Jonathan Hendrick.

Making it a Sooner State sweep of victory lane was Broken Arrow, OK, shoe Darien Roberts, who won the 15-lap Horizon Mini Sprints Restricted "A" Class main event.

While Wilson led Friday's preliminary feature in wire-to-wire fashion, he passed virtually everything in sight during the evening's qualifying action. Starting 12th in the second of ten heat races, Wilson charged all the way up to second and ranked second in passing points to Chris Andrews following heat race action.

Gridding the second of five qualifying races in tenth, Wilson blasted through the pack in short order and took the win to earn the pole position for the feature event.

Oklahoma City's Jason Lair was slated to start alongside Wilson in the feature event, but Senter moved up to the front row outside when Lair's engine gave way in the staging area moments before the field aligned.

Wilson outgunned Senter for the point at the drop of the green flag and never looked back. Reaching lapped traffic by the ninth circuit on the high-banked, ¼-mile clay oval, Wilson never faltered while slicing through traffic the rest of the way. "One down, one to go," Wilson commented in victory lane.

With Wilson out front, Sawyer took advantage of a Senter's progressively tightening machine to take the runner-up slot in the final laps. Senter held on for third in the non-stop affair, with Yockey a close fourth as King held off Hendrick for fifth.

Pennsylvania's Jake Murphy just missed an assured starting spot by finishing seventh, while Chris Berreth advanced from 15th to eighth. Aaron Reutzel raced from 20th to ninth, with 17th-starter Travis Elliott completing the top ten.

“A” Feature – Top 6 Finishers Locked into Saturday night’s $10,000 to win 600 Nationals Finale.

Now that all of the big shows are winding down the time has come to let the world know about the exciting news pertaining to the biggest and the best Mini-Sprint Show on the Planet! If you missed this race in 2006 you don't want to miss it in 2007, Sept. 13th, 14th, and 15th. The biggest, the best, and most professional Micro Sprint race ever put together is set to be even bigger and better for 2007 with more sponsors, more contingencies and an even larger purse!

I-30 SpeedwayOur mission was, and still is, to bring the 600 Nationals to the statis of the "Knoxville Nationals" of our sport. MISSION ACCOMPLISHED! Those who had the opportunity to attend our event in '06 can attest that this race is the most professional and the best Micro-Sprint Race ever put together. Many things are in the works to make this an even bigger and better experience for 2007!

I've been contacted and e-mailed over and over about rumors that are flying around about possibly adding a restrictor class to the 600 Nationals. Well, I can go ahead and put those rumors to rest right now... WE ARE!!! This year we've started a new restrictor class at I-30 known as the Horizon Mini-Sprints and they will be running during the 600 Nationals, both nights. That's right, the litte guys are going to get to have some light shown on them right along side of the big-dogs. And they'll be racing for $1,000 to win! Plans are in the works to push the Horizon purse even farther so stay tuned as that developes over the next couple of weeks. Rules are available at www.I-30speedway.com and we'll get them posted soon at www.600nationals.com , and mind them to the letter because they will be teched! CHEATERS WILL BE EMBARRASSED!

Sawyer Chassis has again put up a 2007 Saywer Chassis 626 Chassis Kit to be drawn for at the Nationals this year. Each chance is only $5 and you can soon get the entry info at the 600 Nationals web site. You can enter as often and as many times as you like. You do not have to be present to win. Last years winner was Garrett Mack of Memphis, TN with a $5 entry. Lucky Dog! This was a huge hit last year and will only be better this year...

This year we will again be having the prestigious Sawyer Chassis Dash for Cash for the top 6 qualifiers from the Friday night portion of our program. A big thanks goes out to Sawyer for their continued support of the biggest race of the year.

Keizer wheels is back on-board with a bigger and better package than last year and is greatly appreciated! Wade at Keizer pledged his support again and we are excited about his contributions to the 600 Nationals. Need Wheels? Go to www.keizerwheels.com

We couldn't put this show on without the support of Hoosier and they are our title sponsor for another year! The generosity of Hoosier to help make this event a success is extremely appreciated! And Hoosier Racing Tire is the official tire of the I-30 Speedway 600 Nationals.

In 2006 we paid out over $13,000 in products, product certificates, gift certificates, free stuff and more. Get ready because we're doing it again. This year we have more sponsors and the list is still growing! If you are a Micro-Sprint or Racing related business and want a chance to market your company on a truly world level, this is it! Please contact us ASAP if you want to get involved...

Speaking of the world... I'm pleased to announce that the popularity of our event has reached across the pond. We have drivers entering the 600 Nationals from the other side of the planet! A French-man and Australians have gotten into the mix. You wanted on the map? NOW WE'RE ON THE GLOBE!!!

The purse that was paid out in 2006 was staggering. The largest purse ever devised for a Mini-Sprint race is even bigger for 2007!!! Money has been added to the A Feature purse for Friday and cash has been added to Non-Qualifier races on Saturday. That's right more MONEY!!! For those who are unaware or didn't make it last year, virtually every running racecar on Saturday gets paid. Even the guy who finishes dead-last out of all the entries gets atleast $150 bucks. If you run a non-qualifier on Saturday you atleast make your entry back! We had 128 cars last year and we paid 'em. And, ofcourse, the winner gets a whopping $10,GRAND!!!

Our Sprint Bandit Format was designed by the legendary Lonnie Wheatley and he will be on-hand to score this event personally. We have been praised the country over for the way in which the race was ran and the professionalism of the personel at I-30 Speedway. The races are ran quickly and efficiently. The format gives racers a chance to do what they love to do, RACE AND RACE ALOT! You have multiple chances to make it into the show and the format doesn't punish you if you have a bad race. It gives you a chance to make it up and redeem yourself. Some people will race four seperate races in one night! We take the top 6 from Friday and lock them in, then start all over on Saturday with the same format. NO ALPHABET SOUP!!!

The time to enter is now. Get in ASAP and reserve your number. You can enter on-line at www.600nationals.com or print out the entry form on the site and send it in to the track. If you don't think you can win, SO WHAT? This is a chance to see how you stack-up against the best in the world. You have nothing to lose because you'll atleast make your entry back. This isn't just a race, it is an event! If you have to team up to get here, DO IT! Just get here. You love the experience!

Stay tuned as we'll be releasing info regularly between now and the race in September. If you have any questions you may contact myself or the track, and contact info is available at www.600nationals.com or www.I-30speedway.com .

It's time to get ready!
